Splat Jr with SplatLab

Splat Lab is a unique and highly engaging class that combines Play, Art, STEM, and Creativity into one magical experience. With four stations, we always have cool new projects every semester, so kids always have something new to look forward to. We start each session with a welcome circle, after which students choose a station to work in for that session. The “main splat” stations include fun things like fizzing rainbows, splat silly puddy, and rainbow sand. “Open Splats” include activities like tube creatures, rainbow scratch crowns, magnetic rods and balls, and cup castles. We end with a closing circle to reflect on the fun and give shout-outs.

Swimming with Penguin City Swim

Make a splash this trimester with Penguin City Swim. A 45-minute swim class from 4:30 to 5:15 PM. Our students will have exclusive access to the pool during this time, with two experienced swim coaches leading instruction and a certified lifeguard on duty for added safety. An initial skills assessment on the first day will help group students by ability, focusing on freestyle, backstroke, and treading water.
Travel and pick up details to note: Students will travel by bus with After Owls staff to Penguin City Swim’s Midtown East location (132 E 45th St) for a 45-minute swim class from 4:30 to 5:15 PM. Before leaving for the pool, students will have time to get a head start on their homework and change their clothes. Families will pick up directly at the pool at 5:30 PM (just one stop from Union Square to Grand Central on the 4/5 train).
Please note: Monday, September 15, students will be on-site at Friends meeting their teachers, discussing bus and facility etiquette for the pool, engaging in a team building activity, and doing homework. Pick up on September 15 will be at Friends at 4:30 pm.
Attire: Beginning Monday, September 22, students are required to bring their swimsuits, goggles, and towels.

In this special two-part media class, students will explore the world of digital music, sound editing, and storytelling. First, after discussing the FUN-damentals of music theory, participants will produce their very own songs using computers, mics, synthesizers, groove boxes, and other audio equipment. In Part Two, we will turn to the art of storytelling as kids plan, record, build, and edit their very own short Podcast show.
