After

After Owls, formerly named Friends After Three, runs every school day from 3:05 - 4:30 PM, serving students in Kindergarten through Grade 6.​ Led by talented coaches, charismatic actors, brilliant artists, chess masters, and supportive teachers, these programmatic workshops foster friendships within a grade level, beyond the students’ homeroom classmates. Snack is provided daily, directly after school. ​

Junior Basketball with BSNY

Students can jump start their homework in a comfortable, focused setting. Students may also enjoy independent reading time or other quiet academic practices. This program will provide students with the structure they need to complete their assignments alongside guidance from a teacher.

Lego Robotics with TEKintellect

TEKintellect bases their programs around STEM foundations: learning to construct mechanized machines using Lego Robotics Technic multi-sensory components. Every session, the students receive a short STEM lesson introducing them to the principles of science underlying the models they are engaged in building. The students are exposed to robotics and its wonders using their engineering abilities, imagination and creativity. This program is ideal for children who are amazed by the wonders of robotics, enjoy developing new projects, and love to find answers for their logical questions.

Make a Musical: Under the Sea
with Child's Play

Self-expression and artistry are the name of the game! Students explore beloved musicals through improvisation, dance and music. Led by professionally-trained actors, kids flex their imaginative muscles and learn the basics of vocal warm-ups, character development and choreography. Dive into drama, inspired by The Little Mermaid and the best aquatic-themed kid lit! Play a game of Sneaky Tag with the Sea Witch, find treasures from the deep, and enjoy showing off your skills at the underwater ball! Kids are inspired to make their own stories and sing classic songs.

Multi Sport Games with Coach Luis

After Owls Olympians! This program will bring students together for a rotation of athletic and team building activities. Innovative athletics will be at the basis of this creative sports program. Enjoy many indoor and outdoor sports, individual and team competitions, and hi-tech fun equipment. This is exhilarating gameplay for your children that encourages valuable sport and life skills integrated through friendly and fascinating play.

Beginner ASL: Learn American Sign Language

Mondays

Grades 1-4

Fee $400

This exciting and interactive class is for students who want to learn the language and culture of American Sign Language. Students will begin by learning to finger-spell the alphabet and names and then move on to learning signs for everyday activities and basic communication. Students will learn through games, songs and hands-on activities to ensure a fun and engaging learning experience! This visual skill is a beautiful way to learn communication outside of our face masks. Led by teachers from ABC Languages.

TV Production with CinemaKidz

Children learn how to act in and produce an original tv show series! Together, kids will create their very own series—planning art direction, storyboarding, filming, making costumes, and editing several episodes. Children develop characters, and structure their very own episodic story arc to span a tv show. Shows may range from dramas and sci-fi fantasy stories, to news or talk shows - the sky’s the limit!

Art Studio: Crafting with Nicole

In this fantastical and fun hands-on arts and crafts class, students will make 2D and 3D projects using a variety of materials. We will use pencils, crayons, oil pastels, tempera paints, glue, construction paper, cardboard, feathers, craft sticks, watercolors (just to name a few)! Students will create collages, puppets, castles, games, masks, mandalas, paintings and other amazing original creations. 

Blading with Matt 

Tuesdays

Grades 1-4

Rollerblading is one of the safest sports around and a proven thorough workout. Children have the opportunity to join the blading craze by learning the moves from an “inline” pro! Basic skating instruction will include striding, turning, stopping, crossovers and much more. Group games ensue with exhilarating cheers echoing through the gym. Individual skates, pads and helmets required.

Music and Song with Third Street Music

Using song, language, movement and instruments, children participating in Third Street’s music program are encouraged to “be their own instrument” – to develop the creativity within by sharing ideas, improvising rhythms and melodies and creating movements to accompany songs throughout the year.

Storytelling through Dance with Adia

From dance parties to songwriting, movement making, and drawing, Mama Adia will bring joy and vibrancy to your child’s afternoon. She will begin each week by reading a different book from a different cultural community around the world. Students will dance, sing, call + respond while exploring the themes found within that story. Dance will come alive through the celebrated cultural explorations and the group participation of dance.

Coding Explorations with Judith

Through independent Scratch and Snap coding projects, students will be introduced to new programming concepts. Possible areas of exploration include using list processing to create mad libs games, defining and using blocks for animations, and coding geometric designs with variables that can be turned into embroidery designs and stitched with an embroidery machine. Through our time together, integrating original art and music into these projects will be emphasized. Students will also have the opportunity to create their own tutorials for other students.

Soccer with Coach Warren

Join Friends varsity soccer coach Warren as he leads junior players along the game of soccer. This program will focus on individual skill, fitness, and sportsmanship, and will provide an opportunity for children to be challenged through fun games and team interaction.

This is an opportunity to rock n’ roll, jam with friends, and put on a show! In this program, children will play electric guitars, bass guitars and drums like a real-life rock band. At the end of the program, the rock stars will put on a concert where they will perform for their adoring fans. Led by LS Spanish Teacher Luis Miranda.

Adventures in Animation with CinemaKidz

Fee $400

Children utilize a variety of materials to build props, characters, and fantastical mini movie sets to feature in original stop-motion animation films. Experiment with combining live action with animation, as well as effects like drawing on each frame, and utilizing green screens and stock footage. Children learn to create their own sounds and special effects to add to their shorts as they work in post-production. Kids will explore various stop-motion and digital animation techniques, and create a variety of both 2D and 3D projects.

Chinese Wu Shu

Wu Shu combines ancient and graceful martial art forms with aesthetic movements and acrobatics. It has a rich history of over 2,500 years. We guide and train students in Wu Shu and its principles, which are designed to promote self-respect, self-reliance, and self-discipline all within a safe, healthy community that promotes physical and personal wellness for these young students. Taught by Shifu Edward Aguirre who was a martial art choreographer in movie sets for The Power Rangers, Mortal Kombat and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Adventure Series with Child's Play

Kids unleash their imaginations and tap into their intrinsic sense of play in this vibrant theater class. The session is anchored around a theme and a weekly adventure. We use literature as a springboard to act out favorite characters and engage in rich imaginative exercises: They soar into magical realms, embark on ocean voyages and make heroic animal rescues. Theater games, improv, and sophisticated dramatic play support learning and meaningful connections with their peers. Best of all, these classes help young children explore empathy, literacy and boost their self-esteem in a fun, joyful environment.

Chess with Peter

Open to players of all levels. Beginners will be introduced to the fundamentals of the game, including basic strategy and tactics. Kindergarten boys and girls will have special access to our cityscape Sky Field! Fastbreak Flag football teaches young and upcoming football players the necessary skills to advance to the next level. Players will be taught catching, throwing, flag pulling as well as offensive and defensive fundamentals. The program's curriculum is designed around player development and teaches proper technique in a fun, safe, and high energy environment.

Hogwarts School with Child's Play

Improvisation and theater games help stoke creativity, create an ensemble and develop the spirit of play. Students learn how to create a character from a place of instinct and play. Join us as we use the “magic” of theater to explore this Wizarding World. Using the Harry Potter series as a springboard, students rehearse scripted scenes as well as devise their own stories. Writing and improv skills are honed as they create plays based on their favorite iconic characters or imagine new ones in this magical world. In addition to the acting work, we’ll play games of Quidditch, make spell books and compete for the House Cup. Jump on your Firebolt and let’s play! A great session for kids to increase confidence, craft, and their ability to work as part of an ensemble.
